LIF WEEK also known as Lima Fashion Week first began in 2011. This event showcases the collections of Peruvian designers locally as well as internationally. The fashion industry in Peru is developing because of it. I think that LIF Week in the future could be recognized the same as fashion weeks in New York, Milan, or Paris. Although the objective of fashion weeks are for designers to present their collections, it is also a platform where fashion enthusiasts can learn more about designers, their brands, and new trends.
I remember being very excited when I found out that there would be a fashion week in Lima. I think Peru has a lot to offer because of its culture and also because it is a textile country. When I first heard about LIF week, I was in Missouri studying Fashion Merchandising and only knew about North American and European designers and their fashion shows. Knowing that the country where I was born would have its own fashion week encouraged me to want to know more about Peruvian designers. During college, I became interested to research about talented designers such as Gerardo Privat (whose work I came across from my grandma mentioning him) and also worked on projects inspired from Peruvian fashion.
Since then, I dreamed of someday attending LIF Week, but during that time it was impossible to travel since I was in college and later I focused on work. But life takes many turns, just recently in October I visited Lima and was precisely during the time that fashion week was happening so I went to some of the shows. I was impressed by how organized the event was, the details, the catwalk, the designer’s collections, and the nice location. I really liked that some of the designers inspired their designs to reflect the current real issues happening like taking care of the sea or to not allow women to be abused. The collections that I loved the most were designed by Noe Bernacelli, Paola Gamero, and Claudia Jimenez to name a few. I also enjoyed seeing Yirko Sivirich’s designs as well as the tribute to Gerardo Privat. Since I had such a positive experience I plan to attend future editions!
Below I share with you the outfits that I wore during Lima Fashion Week!
