The Difference Between Fashion, Style, and Trends

If you ask someone what fashion means to them, most of the time you may realize that it gets confused with the meaning of style. But, recently I have noticed that they also confuse what trends are. So I thought to write this post to help you learn how to tell the difference, below!

Fashion: Fashion is a general term that can have different meanings. But, it is mainly known as garments, clothing, accessories, handbags, shoes, outfits, details, fabrics, etc. It is a creation, a fantasy, or a dream yet can also be exciting and risk taking. It also makes you think of designers, fashion shows, models, style, and trends. Fashion can also mean influence, as the designs and creations are usually influenced by art, culture, history, religion, our likes and more. Brands, celebrities, bloggers, and others also influence the fashion world.

Style: Style is original, unique, and special. It is usually a process from trial and error and takes time to develop. It is a way to show the world who you are without having to speak. Style also involves dressing in a particular look (trendy, casual, etc). And because style is unique, it is difficult for someone to copy. It is not just about what you wear and your outfit, but how you feel and present yourself in the clothes you wear.

Trends: Trends are what is current and most popular in fashion. It can also be known as the term fast-fashion. It is keeping up with the similarities of what designers have showcased in runway shows as well as what celebrities, bloggers, and others use. Something that is trendy does not always mean it will look stylish, but it could be known as fashionable. Certain trends are also not meant for everyone, just because something is popular does not mean it will look good on you. There may even be trends that are uncomfortable to wear.
